Conceived in 2006 to mark the 20th anniversary of Goffredo Parise's death, «Note sui Sillabari» originated from an idea by the composer Stefano Bellon. It later evolved into a melologue through the involvement of the Thelonious Monk Big Band conducted by Marcello Tonolo, who subsequently completed the incidental music with Bellon. The texts by the writer Vitaliano Trevisan (1960–2022) – the director and voice actor of the production – turned what started as a tribute to Parise into an entirely new and original work. «Note sui Sillabari» was staged five times between 2007 and 2009. In 2023, the melologue was revived with a new production following the meeting between the actress Patricia Zanco and Marcello Tonolo. While remaining faithful to Trevisan’s text, the presence of a female voice and the new ensemble – a jazz piano trio – gave this version of Note sui Sillabari a markedly different character from the original. Not only did Tonolo rearrange his three orchestral pieces included on the previous album, but he also added three new ones he composed. The cohesion achieved by the trio over thirteen performances between May 2023 and September 2025 convinced us the time was right to record its music. Domenico Santaniello on double bass and cello, Enrico Smiderle on drums, for their part, contributed significantly to the success of the recording. We chose to title the new album «Sillabari Mood» to underline its distance from the previous project and to evoke its spirit and inspiration — an even clearer connection thanks to the bonus track in which Patricia Zanco reads the final chapter of the melologue, a text that stands as a kind of summation and synthesis of the entire work.
