Three years after releasing «Oxymoron», Kathya West and Danilo Gallo continue their original interpretation of the rock repertoire with this intriguing and inspired «The Last Coat of Pink», where all it took was changing one member of the trio to obtain a completely different sound. What was reinterpreted in the former album were the songs by the pair Beatles/Rolling Stones and Gallo participated in the unusual guise of guitarist playing with Valerio Scrignoli. On the latter album, though, Gallo is back playing double bass to approach the Pink Floyd repertoire more creatively together with West’s mesmerizing, haunting voice: complementing the trio is inventive pianist Alberto Dipace, who already accompanied on «Eyes and Madness» and, more recently, «Collera City». t’s a visionary and dreamy interpretation the one given by the trio, as Kathya West’s words clarify: “It’s not easy to play an immensity, but you can make it sound. For the wind, you can blow. For the illusion, there are dreams. For the emptiness there’s music, the one playing what does not exist... One often gets lost in the vastness of space. It’s from the will to meet again in such vastness that our musical tale was born... A visionary vastness, Pink Floyd’s, where we decided to plunge and feel amazed upon meeting again, always”. Their tribute to Pink Floyd is intimate and personal, but also respectful of their unforgettable melodies which changed the course of popular music. Songs like Money, Wish You Were Here, Hey You or Mother seem to take on a new life in a project as daring as it is unique; it doesn’t need to shout to make itself heard since whispers are noisier than cries in this imaginary sound journey. The Cd closes with a ghost track, the fourth version of Is There Anybody Out There?, which only in this wonderful reprise manages to convey its moving, melancholy beauty after the first three versions (none of which lasts more than 30 seconds) only gave us a glimpse of it.
