A fine musical trio is always more than the sum of its individual parts, and over two decades the grouping of pianist Michel Reis, bassist Paul Wiltgen and drummer Marc Demuth has developed a distinctive character that hasn’t simply yielded a number of fine recordings, but has helped to set Luxembourgish jazz on the international map. Now, working with anorchestraconducted by Vince Mendoza --who also penned some of the arrangements --and with guest saxophonist Joshua Redman, they have delivered Freedom Trail, a powerful new musical statement that raises the group to a new level of creative ambition. Thoughtful and sensuous by turns, it shows how a group that plays as a whole can address the listener as a whole. Essential modern listening.(Brian Morton)

Under the supervision of music producer Ermanno Basso, Freedom Trail was recorded in July 2022at Luxembourg Philharmonicby Tijmen Zinkhaan and Werner Pensaert, mixed in July2025 at Huizen (Netherlands) by Tijmen Zinkhaan, and mastered by Nathan James at Vault Mastering Studios, Phoenix (Arizona –USA).

Un buon trio musicale è sempre piùdella somma delle sue singole parti e nel corso di duedecenni il gruppo formato dal pianista Michel Reis, dal bassista Paul Wiltgen e dal batteristaMarc Demuth ha sviluppato un carattere distintivo che non ha solo prodotto unaserie diottime registrazioni, ma ha contribuito a posizionare il jazz lussemburghese nel quadro internazionale. Ora, collaborando con un'orchestra, il sassofonista ospite Joshua Redman e con la direzione di Vince Mendoza, nonché autore di alcuni arrangiamenti, hanno dato vita a Freedom Trail, una nuova potente dichiarazione musicale che eleva il gruppo a un nuovo livello di aspirazione creativa.
