Press Release

After 16 albums for Caligola, and 5 with the bass–and–drum team of Alessandro Turchet and Luca Colussi, the pianist Claudio Cojaniz, from Friuli Venezia Giulia, decided to change his musicians; in this new trio you’ll find the wonderful double bass player Mattia Magatelli – born in Bormio, he lives in Veneto area now – and the creative Sicilian drummer Carmelo Graceffa. With the change of two partners also changes the music of the trio, although the melodic sensitivity, the harmonic ability and the rhythmic composure of Claudio Cojaniz never fail. At the age of 70 the pianist remains one of the most important interpreters even if undervalued of his instrument in Italy, and this new album confirms his uncommon musical stature. Two of the eight tunes are piano solo, lyrical and reflexive parentheses that confirm his attitude for this formula. Some African echoes are left in Umphefumulo Wase – Afrika and it is sweet to be carried away through the melancholic lyricism of Le Jardin des pluies, the evocative melody of Martin Fierro or the Monk style melody of Red Line, with the deep double bass of Magatelli in the foreground. «Black» is another confirmation, if ever needed, of the artistic depth of the Friulian pianist.
