"What might have been and what has been point to one end, which is always present"

“CTB, few hypotheses” è il frutto della collaborazione tra AKA e diversi musicisti della scena elettronica. Nasce dalla volontà di approfondire le possibilità sonore (e visive) che emergono quando un'opera d'arte viene aperta, riportata ai suoi elementi costitutivi e poi riassemblata da zero in modi, tempi e spazi diversi.

Il progetto è sia un tentativo di superare la naturale tendenza a leggere un significato univoco nella realtà che ci circonda sia una cura per riappropriarsi della fiducia nell'altro, nello sconosciuto, nell'incontrollato.

Diverse sono le domande che hanno portato a questa esplorazione: che significati cela un brano di musica improvvisata? L'opera d'arte appartiene solamente all'artista che ne ha dato (una) forma? Che significati emergono quando essa viene osservata e reinventata da molteplici punti di vista? E cosa comporta mettere insieme questi punti di vista in una sola opera?

“CTB” era stata pubblicata come bonus track del primo disco di AKA (AKA, Auand, 2019 lucasguera.bandcamp.com/album/aka). Nel tempo che va dalla pubblicazione ad oggi le tracce che compongono il brano sono state affidate a diversi musicisti attivi in diversi contesti di musica elettronica. Il punto di partenza era sempre lo stesso: creare un nuovo brano a partire dalle diverse tracce costituenti “CTB”, senza alcuna direzione prestabilita, se non quella suggerita dalla traccia stessa. I risultati, incredibilmente vari, sono stati masterizzati dal genio di Renato Grieco, per poi essere fatti convivere all'interno di questo “CTB, few hypotheses”.

Lorenzo Picarazzi di Red Lights Video ha poi scelto alcuni di questi brani costruendo un lavoro estremamente visionario, a tratti oscuro, attorno ad essi, utilizzando materiale girato per l'occasione (il video di “Combat Trauma Bag” di Malstrom è stato realizzato in una fabbrica nella periferia di Milano) così come video di archivio, di sicuro il territorio più visitato dal giovane videomaker di stanza a Milano.

 CTB, few hypotheses is a collaborative projectbetween AKA and several sound/video artists. Its purpose is to unfold the sonic and visual possibilities that emerge when one piece of art is opened up, reset to its fundemental particles, its crackles being put together from scratch, indifferent times, spaces and contexts. At the same time, the project is an attempt to overcome our natural tendency to read one specific meaning in the reality that surrounds usand it is also a treatment for trustfulness. Several questions led to the project: what is the meaning behind an improvised track? Is a piece of art necessarily owned by the artist itself? Does any new meaning appear when it becomes an object to be seen - and reimagined - from different angles? What does putting together these different perspectives mean?

The improvised track "CTB" was originally released as a bonus track for the physical version of our first album (AKA, Auand, 2019 lucasguera.bandcamp.com/album/aka). We decided to give the track's stems to several musicians we know or we get to meet virtually (like The B-Roll, which we contacted on instagram) and admire for their work and who are active in different music contexts. The starting point was always the same: creating a new track starting from CTB's different instruments/tracks, without any other direction being given by us. The results, astonishingly various and genre spanning, were mastered by sound master Renato Grieco, and then forced to co-exist together in this album.

Lorenzo Picarazzi, from Red Lights Video, picked up some of the tracks and built a visionary and obscure visual work around them using both brand new material shot for the project (like the videofor Malstrom's “Combat Trauma Bag”, shot in a metallic carpentry in the suburbs of Milan) and archive footages (Lorenzo's work often investigates the practice of the restitution, which allows to rescue images often lost in the archives). The video for California Technical Bulletin was made by The B-Rollhimself.
