«Guardando oltre» is Tommaso Genovesi's fourth album released by Caligola and his first to appear exclusively in digital format. It features the same line up that recorded «Open Spaces» six years earlier, confirming the strength, cohesion, and musical rapport of a truly established band. The Sicilian pianist, born in 1959, who is based in the Veneto region, reaffirms his preference for quartets: his first two records as a leader, although featuring different musicians, were also made with the same instrumentation. In his last two albums Genovesi, author of all compositions, is instead joined by Alberto Vianello on tenor and soprano sax, Marco Privato on double bass and Emanuel Donadelli on drums. The leader tells in the liner notes: “«Guardando oltre» (Looking Beyond) is an invitation to look past appearances and cultivate the curiosity that leads us beneath the surface of things and to a deeper understanding of the world. Our reality is getting more complex and is not easy to interpret, especially when it comes to questioning the ready–made narratives that would have us accept a world without alternatives. Art, literature, music, and every creative activity that, by its very nature, reaches beyond the obvious, offer another path: seeking new perspectives, revealing beauty, searching for moments of truth, and opening fresh ways of seeing and understanding reality.”
