Domenico Rizzuto, percussionist, trumpeter and composer born 35 years ago in Tropea, Calabria, with behind a remarkable series of important experiences, the result of strict jazz music studies in Conservatory Santa Cecilia, Rome, tried to rework it in an electronic key, without ever damaging its nature, indeed enriching it with original contaminations. In the wake of this innovative research, the Calabrian trumpeter has therefore decided to rework in a modern way a piece that the writer Giose Rimanelli, from Molise who spent most of his life in the United States, where he died in 2018 at 91, had dedicated to his father and entitled Patrema, which means "my father" in the southern Italian dialect. Rimanelli composed that blues in 1959, combining it with his novel "Una posizione sociale", reprinted this year by publisher Rubettino. But this is just the guide track of a project that will soon become a complete album, in which Rizzuto has exhumed five other instrumental tracks written by Rimanelli’s grandfather, Tony "Slim" Dominick, wandering umbrella and appreciated cornet player, who had lived part of his life, between the 1800s and 1900s, in New Orleans, before returning home. Our label should release the whole album, which this single precedes by a few months, before the end of the year.
