Ground 71 è un gruppo formato da Giampiero Locatelli (piano, rhodes), Stefano Dallaporta (contrabbasso e basso elettrico) e Andrea Grillini (batteria).
Si sono incontrati ed hanno iniziato a suonare insieme nel 2015 e, fin dall’inizio, le aree musicali che hanno deciso di esplorare erano quelle riguardanti i concetti di forma, spazio e metro.
Lavorare sulla forma della musica, mette gli improvvisatori nella condizione di accogliere l’inaspettato, uno dei principali obiettivi di un musicista di jazz. I grandi spazi e respiri, assieme a forme inusuali e imprevedibili, regalano alla musica di Ground 71 un’atmosfera sognante e crepuscolare,
Questo trio lavora nell’esposizione del materiale musicale disponendolo su diversi livelli metrici, con una continua inversione di ruoli, dando all’ascoltatore un senso di “galleggiamento” sullo spazio e sul tempo, e alla musica l’idea di rinascita.
In questo primo disco eponimo, il gruppo incornicia tutti questi anni di prove, concerti e di lavoro attorno a questi concetti.
Giampiero Locatelli, nato a Reggio Calabria nel 1976, è docente presso il conservatorio di musica "F. Cilea". La sua produzione artistica, inizialmente rivolta al concertismo, dal 2002 è stata indirizzata sull'attività compositiva e improvvisativa: il compositivo, di chiaro stampo europeo e l’improvvisativo che racchiude diverse culture (non necessariamente di matrice jazzistica), mantenendo, tuttavia, un'unità stilistica facilmente riconoscibile. Nel 1998 ha pubblicato, con la casa discografica Phoenix Classics di Montebelluna (TV), un Cd dal titolo “1939/1945 Musiche del tempo di guerra”. Tra il Dicembre 2010 e febbraio 2013 la sua pièce teatrale dal titolo Esercizi Materiali su testi di Domenico Loddo è stata proposta da importanti stagioni concertistiche tra cui il Festival Internazionale di Roccella Jazz (agosto 2012). Ha preso parte alle prime esecuzioni dei primi premi delle edizioni 2009 e 2010 del Concorso Internazionale di Composizione per pianoforte solo, indetto dalla Associazione Culturale Continuum Musicum, eseguendo in prima assoluta i brani Night Light del compositore Stefan Lienenkamper e Sonata I del compositore Claus Kuhnl. Si è classificato  nella lista “Top Jazz” 2019 della rivista Musica Jazz dopo la pubblicazione del suo disco in trio “Right Away” (Auand 2018)
Stefano Dallaporta, nato a Padova nel 1981, ha iniziato a suonare il basso all’età di quattordici anni. Si è laureato in musica jazz al conservatorio e in Scienza dei Materiali all’Università. Ha vinto borse di studio partecipando ai corsi di Siena jazz e presso il Banff International Workshop of Jazz and Creative Music. E’ un musicista molto esperto nella musica Afro Americana in generale, vista la sua lunga presenza nella scena blues. Oltre a collaborazioni jazzistiche (Tower Jazz Composers Orchestra, MOF, David Murray, Carlo Atti e molti altri) ha suonato in tour con molte leggende del blues come Guitar Shorty, Nine Below Zero, Martha High, Morblus e molti altri.
Andrea Grillini, nato a Bologna nel 1985, ha collaborato con molti musicisti internazioni come David Murray , Ken Vandermark, Marc Ducret, Bruno Chevillion,  Tristan Honsinger, Steven Bernstein. Ha partecipato a numerosi festival come Human Rights Nights Festival (Soweto), Improvised Music Serie (Chicago), Bologna jazz festival, Jazz & Wine (Cormons). Con la sua band Bad Uok ha pubblicato il primo disco “Enter” nel 2012 per Auand Records, dove lui compare come compositore e leader. Con il gruppo Fuel 4tet ha vinto nel 2015 il premio We Insist (MIDJ). Ha una stabile carriera come sideman, leader e compositore nella scena jazz italiana.

Ground 71 is an Italian instrumental ensemble founded by Giampiero Locatelli (piano, rhodes), Stefano Dallaporta (upright and electric bass) and Andrea Grillini (drums).
They met and began playing together in 2015. Since the beginning their areas of interest have been geared towards the concepts of form, space and meter.
Focusing on the exploration of forms in music forces the improvisers to welcome the unexpected,  pushing them towards one of the main goals of jazz musicians. Large voids and   deep breaths, combined with unusual and unpredictable forms, veil Ground 71’s music with dreamlike and crepuscular feeling.
Ground 71 expresses music through multiple metric layers, and a continuous rotation of roles, allowing the listener to feel suspended in mid air, navigating through different levels of space, whilst embedding music a new natural sense of rebirth.
In their first eponymous record, Ground 71 frames all the years of research, concerts and work in the concepts discussed above.
Giampiero Locatelli (b. Reggio Calabria 1976)  Professor at the “F. Cilea” Conservatorium of Reggio Calabria. His artistic production initially revolved around written piano repertoire. Since 2002 Locatelli’s work focuses on composition and improvisation. In 1998 Locatelli recorded the album “1939/1945 Musiche del tempo di guerra” for Phoenix Classics, in 2010 he was featured in the first recordings of “Night Light” by Stefan Lienenkämper, and “Sonata I” composed by Claus Kuhnl. Locatelli has participated in numerous national and international festivals, as both soloist and composer. In 2019, after publishing his trio album “Right Away” (Auand Records, 2018), Locatelli was nominated by the Italian  magazine “Musica Jazz” as “top young jazz artists”.
Stefano Dallaporta (b. Padova 1981) started playing bass at fourteen. Since then he has graduated in Jazz Music at the Conservatorium of Adria, and graduated in Material Science at the University of Padova. Dallaporta won scholarships for  both “Siena Jazz” and “Banff International workshop of Jazz and Creative Music”. He is highly demanded in Italy for his expertise in Black American music, with great focus on the Blues scene. In Addition to his collaboration and contribution to Jazz projects such as: Tower Jazz Composers Orchestra, MOF, David Murray, Carlo Atti and many others, Dallaporta has toured with many blues legends like Guitar Shorty, Martha High, Nine Below Zero and others.
Andrea Grillini (b. Bologna 1985) collaborates with many international and national musicians such as: David Murray , Ken Vandermark, Marc Ducret, Bruno Chevillion,  Tristan Honsinger, Steven Bernstein. Grillini has performed in many festivals: Human Rights Nights Festival (Soweto), Improvised Music Series (Chicago), Bologna jazz festival, Jazz & Wine (Cormons). With his band “Bad Uok” he released the record “Enter” in 2012 for Auand Records, where he features as leader and composer. With “Fuel 4tet” he is one of the winners of  the “We Insist Prize” in 2015 (MIDJ). He has a steady career as sideman, leader and composer in the Italian jazz scene.
