A cinquant’anni dall’arrivo dell’uomo sulla luna, “No Gravity” è l’occasione per ricordare, omaggiare e fare una riflessione su un momento di svolta dell’umanità, ma anche un modo per giocare con il cambiamento costante. L’inedito trio formato da Stefano Coppari (chitarra), Domenico Cartago (pianoforte) e Gaetano Partipilo (sax) ha deciso di farlo nel modo più vicino a ognuno dei componenti: con un flusso di improvvisazione, catturato in questo EP pubblicato in digitale da Auand Records.

Tutto è nato durante la residenza Auand al Festival Jazzit 2018. La scintilla fra i tre musicisti è scoccata quasi accidentalmente: “Ci siamo incontrati in studio – spiega Coppari – veramente per caso durante quella residenza, senza esserci mai visti insieme prima e senza avere preparato niente. Le musiche che sono venute fuori ci sono subito piaciute e abbiamo deciso di approfondirle registrandone altre”. Queste tracce sono così diventate il materiale di questo EP, una sorta di eterea suite estemporanea a base di elettronica, loop e melodie nate sul momento.

Con un’aria sospesa e lunare che permea l’intero EP (a partire dalla copertina, in cui campeggia un dipinto dell’artista Fatma Ibrahimi), “No Gravity” prende ispirazione dal satellite e dal costante e incessante mutamento che lo contraddistingue: nello spirito di questo continuo cambiamento, le tracce evolvono trovando sempre un nuovo modo di gettare luce sull’elemento successivo, illuminando la presenza di tutti i membri del trio grazie anche ai cangianti riflessi dell’interplay.

Fifty years after a human being landed on the moon for the first time, “No Gravity” remembers, pays homage to and reflects on a turning point for mankind, making it also a chance to play with constant change. The new trio – featuring Stefano Coppari (guitar), Domenico Cartago (piano) and Gaetano Partipilo (sax) – chose what is the most fitting way for all members: a flow of improvisation, captured in this digital-only EP out now on Auand Records.

The first step that led to “No Gravity” was at Jazzit Festival 2018, during the Auand artist residency. And it happened almost accidentally. “We met by chance at the recording studio while we were both at the residency – Coppari says – we had never met before, and we had nothing ready. Music just came out of that encounter. We liked that, so we decided to go deeper and record that”. And that music eventually turned into this EP – almost an impromptu, aery suite of electronics, loops and in-the-moment melodies.

“No Gravity”’s suspended, lunar mood – also reflected in the cover (a painting by Fatma Ibrahimi) – is inspired by the moon and the non-stop changes associated with it. Following this idea, each track evolves and always finds a new way to introduce and leave the stage to the next element, by shining a light on each musician and on the shimmering glares of their interplay.
