The round trip, disco ideato dal percussionista Cesare Pastanella con il suo quartetto Afrodiaspora, narra un viaggio musicale di andata e ritorno, un percorso policromo e dalle molteplici sfaccettature che racconta in musica il tragitto degli schiavi africani, deportati in America nei secoli passati come forza lavoro, e il ritorno sotto forma di cultura afroamericana al continente di origine. 

Un evento tanto indegno per l'umanità, quanto fondamentale nella storia della musica, per la quantità di cultura e musica creola che ha generato, espressa attraverso stili come la cumbia colombiana, il vals peruviano, il jazz afrocubano, il samba brasiliano, la morna capoverdiana, il funky e il rhythm and blues nordamericani, cantati in lingue dai suoni armoniosi e sinuosi, spagnolo, inglese, creolo, malinké, bambara e yoruba. 

Musiche e parole composte da autori del Mali, Costa d'Avorio, Capo Verde, Brasile, Cuba, Perù, Stati Uniti e brani originali scritti da Cesare Pastanella sul tema della diaspora africana.

In this album, I have enclosed the music of my journeys, of my studies, of my listenings and all the people I have met in my life as a musician.

It is a passionate thread that connects rhythms, melodies and harmonies that have accompanied me for years.

The slave trade from Africa to America while a tragic event for humanity, is fundamental in the history of music for the creole culture that it has generated.

This repertoire represents for me an intense and personal journey through part of the American musical styles derived from the African diaspora, but also through that African music influenced by the rhythms and sounds coming from the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Reciprocal contact between the music of two continents, expressed through styles like Colombian cumbia, Peruvian waltz, Afro-Cuban jazz, Brazilian samba, Cape Verdean morna and songs in differents languages, Spanish, English, Creole, Malinké, Bambara, Yoruba.

I was lucky to share this musical journey with wonderful musical partners like Rosanna, Nando and Francesco, as curious as me to set out on this exploration, adding their precious and personal touch to this fascinating music.
