Un nuovo progetto è un viaggio che non sai dove ti porterà, un percorso durante il quale non sai ancora le persone che potrai incontrare o i luoghi che visiterai. E’ proprio questo però l’aspetto più fascinoso del creare, del sogno che vivi ogni volta quando, partendo da un’idea, come un albero dalle sue radici, questa idea crescerà creando rami che prenderanno infinite direzioni. Per questo ho voluto chiamare questo nuovo progetto “ONIROTREE”, unendo simbolicamente due parole: “Oniro” che in greco significa “Sogno” e “Tree” che in inglese significa “Albero”. Un concetto che l’artista designer Nerina Fernandez ha saputo magicamente interpretare realizzando la copertina di questo album.

Questo progetto nasce dall’incontro con Silvia Lorenzo, che conoscevo già come attrice di grande spessore e che oggi in veste di cantante in “ONIROTREE”, scopro essere anche una straordinaria interprete e appassionata ricercatrice di canti tradizionali. Ho lavorato partendo dalla sola sua voce, cercando di creare per ogni brano una suite nella quale la melodia tradizionale approdasse con naturalezza al linguaggio del jazz. Ho pensato a queste cellule melodiche come degli antichi graffiti ritrovati che mi guidassero per illuminare nuovi pianeti musicali.

”ONIROTREE” vive anche grazie al prezioso contributo degli altri musicisti, Marco Rovinelli e Andrea Colella. Grazie Silvia, Marco e Andrea per questo viaggio fatto insieme, per la vostra sincera passione, per le risate, per la leggerezza e l’armonia che hanno accompagnato tutto questo progetto. Grazie ad ALFAMUSIC, agli amici Fabrizio e Alessandro che hanno voluto abbracciarlo.

L’arte è una carezza per noi tutti, ancor più in questi anni difficili in cui bellezza e armonia dovrebbero mostrarci la strada, ma sembrano invece spesso essere dimenticate. Se saremo stati in grado con questo lavoro di restituirne un po’ , ci ritroveremo ancora insieme a gioirne!

Circa vent'anni di lavoro nel teatro di ricerca mi hanno portato a viaggiare per il mondo, a conoscere molti performer, studiosi, ricercatori, Maestri, e a scambiare esperienze, conoscenze, canti provenienti dalle diverse tradizioni. I primi canti tradizionali li ho ascoltati dalla voce di mia madre e mio padre e da loro credo di aver ereditato questo amore. Ne ho raccolti molti nel corso della mia vita, speravo che prima o poi ne avrei fatto qualcosa...

Quando ho parlato a Francesco Bruno di questa mia passione, mi ha chiesto di proporgliene alcuni, senza un obiettivo, inizialmente. Ho selezionato quelli a cui ero più legata, e quando dopo pochi giorni mi ha mandato il primo brano completamente trasformato, mi sono commossa e così con tutti gli altri, perché ha tirato fuori la loro più profonda essenza, li ha fatti fiorire espandendo la loro geografia e dandogli una visione di futuro. Ho visto splendere canti che già amavo. Francesco ha fatto uno straordinario lavoro alchemico ed io sono estremamente felice di questa inaspettata collaborazione.

Questo progetto parla d'amore e radici, e nasce dall'amore e la passione di tutti coloro che vi hanno partecipato. Amore e radici perché se non conosciamo noi stessi non riusciremo mai ad amare.

A new project is a journey that you do not know where it will take you, a journey during which you do not yet know the people you will meet or the places you will visit. However, this is just the most fascinating aspect of creating, the dream you live every time when, starting from an idea, like a tree from its roots, this idea will grow, creating branches that will take infinite directions. This is why I chose to call this new project “ONIROTREE”, symbolically combining two words: “Oniro” which in Greek means “Dream” and the English word “Tree”. A concept that the artist designer Nerina Fernandez was able to magically interpret by creating the cover of this album.

This project was born from my meeting with Silvia Lorenzo, whom I already knew as an actress of great depth and who today, as a singer in "ONIROTREE", I discover to also be an extraordinary interpreter and a passionate researcher of traditional songs. I worked starting only from her voice, trying to create a suite for each song in which the traditional melody would naturally land on the language of jazz. I thought of these melodic cells as ancient graffiti found to guide me and to illuminate new musical planets.

"ONIROTREE" also lives thanks to the precious contribution of the other musicians, Marco Rovinelli and Andrea Colella. Thank you Silvia, Marco and Andrea for this journey made together, for your sincere passion, for the laughter and for the lightness and harmony that have accompanied this whole project. Thanks to ALFAMUSIC, to friends Fabrizio and Alessandro who wanted to embrace it.

Art is a caress for all of us, even more now in these difficult years in which beauty and harmony should show us the way, but instead seem to be often forgotten. If we have been able to give back some of them with this work, we will find ourselves together again to rejoice!

Working for about twenty years in the research theater have led me to travel around the world, to meet many performers, students, researchers, Masters, and to exchange experiences, knowledge, songs from different traditions. I heard the first traditional songs from the voice of my mother and father and I think I inherited this love from them. I have collected many of them during my life, I was hoping that sooner or later I would do something with them ...

When I talked to Francesco Bruno about my passion, he asked me to hear some of them, without a goal, initially. I selected the ones I loved more and when after a few days he sent me the first song completely transformed, I was moved and the same happened with all the others I heard later, because he brought out their deepest essence, made them flourish by expanding their geography and giving them a vision of the future.

I saw songs that I already loved shining. Francesco has done an extraordinary alchemical work and I am extremely happy with this unexpected collaboration.

This project speaks of love and roots, and was born from the love and passion of all those who participated in it. Love and roots because if we don't know ourselves we will never be able to love.
