Recorded five years after his second piano solo album, «Old & New Dreams» showcases the great strides Francesco Branciamore has made over this time frame in his instrumental technique as well as his expressive style, more and more mature and personal. Besides having been one the most appreciated Italian jazz drummers for at least thirty years, the musicians from Siracusa highlighted even more his talent as composer and pianist in 2018, with «Aspiciens Pulchritudinem», followed in 2021 by «Skies of Sea». The aesthetic vision that runs through this project stems from a long journey of exploration and is fueled by the blend of different genres and traditions. Improvisation, jazz, and classical music come together in a personal style, in which the piano technique becomes a tool for expression and storytelling. Direct encounters with leading figures in the jazz scene and listening consistently to the great masters have nourished a quest to understand and assimilate the multiple changes of sound, form, and improvisation. At the heart of the project is the theme, conceived as a narrative voice and the start of the musical discourse. The pieces unfold as open-ended stories, in which musical composition and improvisation intertwine in a dynamic balance and outline new perspectives on sound and time. Another peculiarity of this latest work is that, while in his previous albums he performed only his own original compositions, here Branciamore offers four reinterpretations of other composers's pieces, two of which do not belong to the jazz repertoire (Federico Mompou and David Crosby).
