Stefano Maria Ricatti, singer, multi-instrumentalist, and above all composer, began his artistic career in songwriting. Both his debut album, "La corriera" (1978), and the following "Blu" (1993), feature only original songs. Over the years, his interest in incidental music grew, leading him to compose for theatre productions, radio dramas, and ballet. He also developed a strong interest in the relationship between music and imagery, particularly in cinema. It's no coincidence that his next four albums are entirely instrumental and reflect this change. “The Anna Frank's Diary” (1996) and “Nuvole e Radici” (1999) both consist of music composed for the stage. In 2003 came “RicattiEnsemble”, featuring music from his various theatre projects (Ricatti doesn't play on this album, he is just the composer of all the tunes), followed by “Suites” (2004), an ambitious work built around two extended compositions written for as many ballets. With “Ad ore piene” (2005) Ricatti returned to songwriting, a path he would revisit again in 2016 with “Che ne sarà”. This latest instrumental album, “Errantes”, sees him as both composer and guitarist, leading the Ricatti Ensemble together with long–time collaborators Roberto Favaro on saxophones, Enrico Pini on bass, and Ivan Trevisan on drums. “Errantes” could be the soundtrack to a documentary or a film: in any case music in images.
