prolex (EP)

The experience of the 2000s generation in the new EP released by Auand Records

The recording debut of prolex, with their self-titled album, offers a range of soundscapes that aim to encapsulate the personal experiences and backgrounds of the three young musicians in the band: Maurizio de Gennaro (guitar), Fabio Angeli (bass), and Matteo Stefani (drums).

prolex is conceived as a sort of concept album, intended to express a specific existential dimension: the one experienced by the generation born in the 2000s.

«prolex – the band says – is the child of a hyperconnected world that follows the speed of machines, and where error is not allowed. It’s about the loneliness you feel in a modern individualist society, and the progressive distancing from nature and its more human pace. Above all, it reflects the sense of inadequacy and powerlessness of an entire generation. This experience is imprinted in our music: it becomes part of the aesthetics and of the themes of our songs.»

This project doesn’t aim to showcase individual technique. Instead, it’s about outlining a common ground, as well as shaping a collective act where everyone’s contribution is key and equally important. There are no genre boundaries, and improvisation is used as a narrative tool.

«This is why – they add – solos are minimal, and were only added later in the creative process, to serve the overall sound. Our priority is the sound of the band, something that we want to be highly recognizable and extremely versatile. Our writing method is therefore quite varied: sometimes one of us brings a nearly finished composition; other times we start together from a rough sketch, or even from actual jam sessions.»

“prolex”, released by Auand Records, includes 4 singles that will be available on all digital platforms on a monthly basis from May to August.

A special mention goes to the contribution of Francesco Ponticelli (Cicaleto Studio Recording), a key element in the process that has defined the sound of prolex. As they put it, «Finding someone with such a deep emotional understanding, and a huge musical sensibility, that never drifts away from the band’s vision, was crucial for the final result. Thanks to him and to Marco Valente from Auand Records itself, we haven’t only achieved this milestone, but we have also been able to better understand the nature of our project and what its next phase will be.»
