Il mio cammino musicale, ha fatto riferimento sempre a tre poli ben definiti, ovvero il jazz statunitense, la proposta brasiliana e l’afro-cubano. Pertanto, ho cercato di sintetizzare queste mie ispirazioni con musicisti capaci di interpretare alla perfezione tali esigenze. Ho avuto la fortuna di partecipare alle incisioni di una grande Orchestra a La Habana, e, quindi, entrare in contatto con musicisti cubani, tutti concentrati verso la medesima mia direzione. Mi sono chiesta “perchè non creare un mio ensemble?”, e, con entusiasmo mio e degli aderenti al progetto, mi sono avventurata in un cammino che mi ha reso pienamente soddisfatta. La band è composta da artisti che fanno o hanno fatto parte delle piu’ importanti formazioni dell’isola, quali Irakere, Interactivo, Chucho Valdes Trio, Silvio Rodriguez, Afro-Cuban All Stars, nonchè protagonisti di album solisti di grandissimo valore. L’empatia che si è composta immediatamente, è stata di ulteriore aiuto per un prodotto che si caratterizza anche per la freschezza dell’esposizione. Di fatto, alla maniera delle incisioni Blue Note degli anni ‘60, la registrazione e’ avvenuta a notte fonda dopo un concerto, affinché i musicisti fossero ancora “caldi” e pronti a dare il loro contributo di energia e di lirismo. Le luci dell’alba sono state il contorno all’uscita dello studio di registrazione, un’emozione ineguagliabile.

Pertanto, un ringraziamento enorme, non certo formale ma di cuore, agli artisti ed ai tecnici dello studio, sempre pronti ad un sorriso ed una battuta. Quello che arriva alle vostre orecchie è la mia idea di musica, ed io sono la persona meno indicata per commentare la cosa; il mio auspicio è che la registrazione riempia i vostri cuori, come ha riempito il mio. Trovarsi al centro di un complesso ritmico, dove ogni musicista fa una cosa diversa, che poi si “incastra” perfettamente con le altre, è una sensazione sublime. E la grande capacità armonica di tutti, non mi ha certo sorpreso, giacche’ stiamo parlando di interpreti di enorme spessore, con mente ed anima capaci di indirizzare verso un percorso incantevole. Pertanto, come si direbbe a New York e La Habana, “they have swing y tienen la clave”.

My musical journey has always referred to three well-defined poles, namely American jazz, Brazilian music and Afro-Cuban music. Therefore, I tried to synthesize these inspirations of mine with musicians capable of perfectly interpreting these needs. I was lucky enough to participate in the recordings of a large orchestra in Havana, and therefore come into contact with Cuban musicians, all focused in the same direction as me. I asked myself “why not create my own ensemble?”, and, with my enthusiasm and that of those participating in the project, I ventured into a path that made me fully satisfied. The band is made up of artists who are or have been part of the most important groups on the island, such as Irakere, Interactivo, Chucho Valdes Trio, Silvio Rodriguez, Afro-Cuban All Stars, as well as protagonists of solo albums of great value. The empathy that arose immediately was of further help for a product that is also characterized by the freshness of its display. In fact, in the manner of the Blue Note recordings of the 60s, the recording took place late at night after a concert, so that the musicians were still “warm” and ready to give their contribution of energy and lyricism. The lights of dawn surrounded the exit of the recording studio, an unparalleled emotion. Therefore, a huge thank you, certainly not formal but from the heart, to the artists and technicians of the studio, always ready with a smile and a joke. What reaches your ears is my idea of music, and I am the least suitable person to comment on it; My hope is that the recording fills your hearts, as it filled mine. Finding yourself at the center of a rhythmic complex, where each musician does something different, which then “fits” perfectly with the others, is a sublime sensation. And everyone’s great harmonious ability certainly didn’t surprise me, since we are talking about interpreters of enormous depth, with minds and souls capable of directing us towards an enchanting path. Therefore, as they would say in New York and Havana, ‘they have swing y tienen la clave!’.
