What are the "untouchable standards"? Certainly not the great repertoire of the American songs of the 30s and 40s, nor the compositions of Monk, Ellington, Golson or Shorter. For Bruno Marini, a historical exponent of Italian jazz, a specialist in baritone sax who for over 20 years has alternated successfully with the Hammond organ, they are the soundtracks (and their respective themes) of some famous science fiction movies that, in the late 1970s and throughout the 1980s, deeply marked the genre but were at the same time blockbusters. An operation on paper difficult and courageous, but that the saxophonist from Verona has brought back to the "normality" of the most sincere and deep jazz, which makes improvisation, live sound and spontaneity its strengths. There are no tricks or overdubs: the music flows smoothly and consistently, as in a particularly successful concert, thanks to the beautiful interplay created between the three musicians. Bruno Marini is supported in his solo raids by an impeccable and swinging bass–and–drum team of the young Martin De Franceschi and his old companion of adventures Alberto Olivieri, in whose studio the record was recorded. The beginning of Alien, which Marini performs on piano, was particularly successful, but all the tunes, which see his splendid and personal baritone sax in the foreground, have many reasons of interest.
