Domenico Rizzuto, trumpeter, percussionist and composer born 36 years ago in Tropea, Calabria, with behind a remarkable series of important experiences, the result of strict jazz music studies in Conservatory Santa Cecilia, Rome, tried to rework it in an electronic key, without ever damaging its nature, indeed enriching it with original contaminations.He does so with a quartet completed by three musicians who play strictly acoustic, trombone, double bass and drums, creating a stimulating contrast with his live electronics. This album is an original tribute to the writer Giose Rimanelli, from Molise, who spent most of his life in the United States, where he died in 2018 at 91, and to the Rimanelli’s grandfather, Tony "Slim" Dominick, wandering umbrella-mender and appreciated cornet player, who had lived part of his life, between the 19th and 20th centuries in New Orleans, before returning home. Rimanelli in 1959 also composed Patrema, a blues dedicated to his father, combining it with his novel "Una posizione sociale", reprinted last year by publisher Rubettino. Far from the instrumental virtuosity, Rizzuto rather seeks his own sound, and he does so with the help of electronics, from which, however, he never lets himself be conditioned, but he seems to dominate with lucid creativity. The trombonist Elisabetta Mattei helps him in this difficult task, and their tight dialogues reproduce in a contemporary way the historical ones between the Ellingtonians Bubber Miley and Joe “Tricky Sam” Nanton, masters of the Jungle Style.
